The 5-Minute Face: Barely-There Beauty
We all love the thought of looking fresh and put together, whilst also letting our natural beauty shine through. However, often in between rushing to work or school, it’s hard to find the time to do a natural make up look, that also makes you look like you’ve had 10 hours of sleep the night before. Therefore this 5-minute barely-there routine (and yes, it’s actually 5 minutes!), lets your natural beauty shine through, whilst also saving time on those busy mornings. No more choosing between make up or breakfast, you can be ready for the day, with a full stomach and a full face of natural make up.
Step 1- Start with skincare
Skincare may be one of the most important steps on a no-makeup, make up routine. By giving yourself a dewy and smooth base to start with, it makes the rest of your routine 10 times easier and can really make it look like you’re glowing from within. After all, there’s no need for a foundation when you are starting with a great foundation – moisturizer and glowy skin.
So, how do you achieve this? All you need is 3 products: a cleanser, a moisturizer and vaseline.
Cleanse – Firstly, with a non-scented cleanser and a soft wash cloth, gently wash your face and then pat it dry with a clean paper towel. This step is key, as it is important not to agitate the skin before makeup application
Moisturise – Next moisturise your face, ensuring that you don’t forget your neck and eyelids. It is key to find a moisturiser that fits your skin type, for example a rich moisturiser for dry skin, and also to ensure that your moisturizer has SPF in it to protect you from the sun all day!
Vaseline – Although an uncommon step in most people’s skin care routine, you would be surprised at the great effects that vaseline can have on your skin, to lock in moisture and get that glowy look. Apply vaseline to your lips, a very thin layer top under your eyes to keep them moisturized throughout the day and a small amount to your eyebrows to act as eyebrow gel.
Now you’re all ready for the next step, make up!

Step 2 – The base
The aim of the base is to let your natural skin shine though, for that authentic no-make up, make up look and you can do this though the use of liquid and cream products.
Skin tint or concealer – The best and most natural way to get an even but natural base, is to opt for either a skin tint or concealer. If your main concern is to even out your complexion, a skin tint applied by first warming it up in your palm and then applying a thin layer to your face, is the best option for you. Alternatively, if your main concern is dark circles and blemishes, then a light weight concealer is perfect for you, applied by tapping it into problem areas with your fingers.
Liquid or cream blush – The best way to introduce a glow that looks like it’s coming from within, is to apply a pinky liquid or cream blush. The best way to do this is to use your fingers to apply blush to the top part of your cheeks and blend upwards. If you want a stronger effect, then these types of blushes are completely buildable, so it’s all up to you!
Step three – The extras
After you’ve perfected your base, a few extra touches can really upgrade your routine and enhance your natural features.
Mascara – The best way to create a dramatic effect in a short amount of time, is to open up and enhance your eyes with a mascara. If you want a very natural effect, you can opt for a brown mascara, or if you have darker features a black mascara. To get the most natural effect, apply a thin coat to the end of your lashes.
Lip gloss – Without changing the colour of your lips, a clear lip gloss can add a shine to your lips, making them look moisturised and fresh. This step is quick but effective and can help you feel naturally confident.
Try it yourself
Now that you have your 5 minute natural make up look for those busy days, it’s time to try it out for yourself. If you want to make any switches to make it personal to you, or enhance features that are important to you, such as swapping liquid blush for a cream bronzer, then you can. The important thing is, that you feel that your natural self is glowing through and ready to face anything the day throws at you.
